    News date: September 28, 2026

SiMa.ai announced a $150 million Series C funding round on September 28, 2026, at a valuation of $1.45 billion. The company says the financing brings its total capital raised to $500 million. Its focus is physical AI: computing used by machines that perceive and operate in real environments. [1]

Funding software and the next hardware generation

The announcement links the funding to Palette Neat software and a future hardware platform targeting 1,000 dense TOPS, a measure of computing throughput. Production chiplets and next-generation systems-on-chips are planned for the first half of 2028. That schedule separates the new roadmap from products already shipping. [1]

In an accompanying company blog, founder Krishna Rangasayee describes a strategy spanning processor intellectual property, chiplets, and complete chips. The goal is to give different device makers ways to use the technology while sharing a software environment. SiMa.ai says its existing generation serves robotics, automotive, and drone applications. [2]

Why device makers will look beyond headline compute

Our view is that a chip’s usefulness in a moving machine depends on the whole installation. A robot must accommodate a battery, cooling, sensors, and control hardware. Extra computing power only helps if the finished system can use it within those constraints.

A practical comparison would run the same perception or control task on competing systems and measure energy use, response time, and accuracy together. A device maker would also need to account for the work required to move its application onto a new platform. These tests can reveal tradeoffs that a peak throughput figure does not show.

The funding gives SiMa.ai resources to pursue that roadmap, but future performance targets remain company projections. The useful milestones to watch are customer evaluations, production availability, and results on complete applications. Those will show how the proposed platform performs in the machines it is intended to support.
